Parenting Education, Outreach and Support
Parenting is difficult in the best of circumstances. At the Summit Prevention Alliance we understand that this is the most difficult and rewarding job you will ever have, and we are here to try and help make your job a little bit easier. Although we don’t have an instruction manual for your child or family, we can provide you some resources to build your skills AND your support system. No one expects you to do this on your own, and we are here to give you a little support along the way! The things we have that relate to parenting education and support include:
- Dialogue over Dinner
- It Starts With US campaign
- The Safe Homes pledge and directory
- Ideas for Parents
- Parents of the Summit (Community Message Board Link)
- Parent Education Network Planning
- Drug-Free Community Coalition
- Daily Text Messages
Dialogue over Dinner
This monthly seminar aims to provide parents with information and skills relevant to parenting adolescents in the challenging atmosphere of today. Click here to RSVP for the next Dialogue over Dinner!
It Starts With US campaign
Social norms marketing is one strategy we use to help you realize you are NOT ALONE! Through biannual surveys, we learn that most parents are set rules, talk with their children about drugs and alcohol, and know who their children are with and when they will be home.
The Safe Homes pledge and directory
We work in close partnership with the PTSO, PTSA, and the School District to bring this pledge and directory to the High School and Middle School. These pledges and directories were developed to help encourage parents to communicate with one another, as this is one of the most valuable tools we have in supporting our children.
Ideas for Parents
Ideas for Parents is biweekly e-letter in both English and Spanish, developed by the Search Institute. It is focused on building assets for your children and family. This e-letter is full of simple ideas to talk with your kids and support their healthy development.
Parents of the Summit County
This message board will be a useful tool for parents who are so busy that they can’t find the time to attend informational sessions , but they still need some support. It will allow you to anonymously post a comment or question or reply to someone who has already done so. Check it out!
